If you do not drink water on a regular basis and you love coffee, you might find yourself in trouble one day. Most people know coffee is a diuretic. Drink too much coffee, or too little water and you will become dehydrated. This seems obvious. And it is.
Dehydration, however, is insidious. It can cause irritability, confusion, languor and headaches. And mild dehydration is pretty common among Americans. Now suppose you're a tired, confused and dehydrated American, who's a little stressed. You're probably feeling tired and your mind is a little cloudy. Where do you turn for a boost of energy? A cup of coffee, perhaps?
Chances are you've found yourself in this vicious cycle at some point in your life. And it is a vicious cycle. I have been through this circle on multiple occasions (mostly finals weeks). I don't get thirsty easily, especially if I don't exercise, so I may be more prone to falling victim to this absurd, invisible trap. In any case, do yourself a favor: drink more water than you currently do. You'll feel better. And you just might avoid alzheimer's when you're older.
